Career Fair Campaign

Multi-Channel Marketing Campaign | Instagram, Email, Digital Out-of-Home Signage

Email

Designed and executed a seven-email campaign leading up to the Fall 2024 Career Fair. Messages built anticipation, delivered prep resources, and drove RSVPs!

  1. Save the Date (Sept 19)

  2. Countdown Begins (Oct 3)

  3. International Student Prep (Oct 7)

  4. One Week Reminder (Oct 10)

  5. Career Fair Prep Tips (Oct 15)

  6. Final Reminder (Oct 17)

Examples of the email subject lines I used during the campaign:

  1. 📅 👀Save the Date: CAREER FAIR

  2. Career Fair COUNTDOWN! 🚨14 DAY AWAY🚨

  3. [INTERNATIONAL STUDENT] Get Tips on Connecting with Employers at the Career Fair!

  4. One Week Until the Career Fair – Are You Ready?

  5. Career Fair Anxiety? (Answer Inside)

  6. The Career Fair is Today!

Achieved consistently high open rates (66–79%) and drove strong attendance at the event.

Social Media

Created Instagram posts to promote the Career Fair using intentional visual branding and cultural references to connect with the target audience.

International Student Content: Incorporated Emerson’s green and blue color palette to be consistent as a visual marker for international student–specific events and resources the office provides, making them easily recognizable.

Pop Culture Integration & Evergreen: Experimented with a design inspired by Charli XCX’s Brat aesthetic, combining Emerson green with minimalist black text to appeal to the Gen Z audience while staying on-brand. In addition to creating networking tip posts that went beyond the Career Fair itself, providing long-term value for students navigating professional events.

Digital Out-of-Home

Beyond email and social media, there were digital signage displays throughout campus. Using the same purple hexagon system as the social media graphics, the signage created visual consistency and brand recognition.

  • Featured key event details alongside logos of attending employers, reinforcing credibility and excitement.

  • Integrated a scannable QR code that linked directly to Handshake, making registration seamless.

  • Placement on high-traffic campus screens ensured that students who may have missed digital outreach were still reached.

Case Study Breakdown

The Career Development Center needed to increase visibility and student turnout for its Career Fair, the largest event each year.

I developed a multi-channel campaign that would reach students where they are (social media, email, and out-of-home digital signage) and convert awareness into registrations and attendance.

Action Steps

  • Designed branded graphics for social media using Canva.

  • Collaborated with the Employer Engagement team to feature attending organizations in posts.

  • Scheduled posts strategically in the weeks leading up to the event to build momentum.

  • Incorporated clear calls-to-action linking to RSVP and registration pages in emails.

  • Created carousel posts to increase shareability on IG stories to maximize engagement.

Result

  • Boosted Career Fair visibility across multiple platforms.

  • Helped generate strong student registrations and attendance, with employer partners noting students’ readiness.

  • The unique Career Fair-branded campaign was used more than once, yielding positive results in terms of attendance.

The phrase breakdown of this campaign

  • To build early awareness, I launched the campaign with a clear “Save the Date” email. The goal was to get the Career Fair on students’ calendars well in advance, as our audience becomes very busy quickly. It establishes the branding that would carry through the rest of the campaign. The email achieved a 69.7% open rate and a 4.8% click-through rate, nearly double the benchmarks for the Higher Ed industry.

  • I shifted focus from awareness to building momentum. I personally call it the “Take Note, ‘Cause It’s Coming!” phase.

There were three emails during this phase, with open rates between 66% and 70%, keeping students engaged as the date approached.

Instagram content highlighted employer rosters and quick networking tips designed for easy shareability on Stories and feeds.

The content tone was action-oriented and reassuring, motivating students to prepare and boosting their confidence before the event.

Impact: Built anticipation and provided practical tools, ensuring students not only knew the event was happening, but also felt prepared to show up ready to connect with employers.

  • This phase focused on tailored programming to meet the needs of specific student groups:

    1. International students* navigating work authorization

    2. Introverted students* feeling anxious about networking.

*International Student Prep Session Partnered with the International Student Career Counselor to host a workshop demystifying what American Career Fairs are, expectations, and strategies for engaging with employers. The supporting email earned a 78.7% open rate and strong engagement.

**Career Fair Anxiety Session Collaborated with the Emerson Wellness Center to deliver a session on reducing anxiety and building confidence before the fair, helping students approach the event with practical strategies and a calmer mindset.

Messaging across channels reinforced inclusivity by addressing both logistical and emotional barriers to participation.

It strengthened accessibility and equity at the Career Fair by meeting students where they are—whether navigating immigration and cultural questions or needing support to feel confident in employer interactions.

  • The final phase of the campaign focused on day-of visibility and last-minute engagement to maximize turnout at the Career Fair.

Messaging shifted from preparation to urgency, reminding students that this was their opportunity to connect directly with employers!

Email reminders sent the morning of the event kept the fair top-of-mind and ensured students had logistical details at hand.

Instagram posts and stories used bold graphics and countdown language (“Today’s the Day!”) to drive excitement and walk-in attendance.

Digital signage across campus reinforced the Career Fair’s presence, creating a consistent brand experience from inbox to hallway screens.

  • After the Career Fair concluded, I shifted focus to capturing impact and sustaining momentum. The recap phase celebrated student participation, highlighted employer engagement, and reinforced the Career Development Center’s role in connecting students to opportunities.

Positioned the Career Fair campaign as more than a one-time push — it became a scalable model that can be adapted for future fairs, ensuring consistent branding, strong engagement, and measurable results.
